SOUTHWESTERN CORN BORE
I am starting to find some Southwestern Corn Bore in some of the earliest corn planted in 2018. They seem to be concentrating on tunneling through the ear shank. This could cause or add to some ear dropping out in the field. Everyone needs to keep in mind though that on average it takes 150 ears per acre on the ground to make up one bushel per acre of corn loss. I do not believe that this is going to be a wide spread problem, but it wouldn’t be a bad idea to check out your first and maybe second fields planted especially if you planted NON GMO corn this year.
